VO4TA:  British Pathé

“Pathé News was a producer of news reels and documentaries from 1910 until 1970 in the United Kingdom. Its founder, Charles Pathé, was a pioneer of moving pictures in the silent era. The Pathé News archive is known today as British Pathé. Its collection of news film and movies is fully digitised and available online.”

And a little overwhelming…

Their Youtube channels are much easier to consume. And the subjects are short, so you can see how the narration moves the story along, contextualizes the ideas and makes the audience care about the characters.

Lots of their material is terribly dated and “cringeworthy” but it’s a good source for models of that period sound; if you can get past topics like: Battle of the Bulges, Marriage Bureau,  and Beatnik Beauty.

QUOTE: “Look at that Beatnik Girl! She’s passing a Mayfair beauty parlour, where smart, chic women pretty themselves up. No place for her! Or is it?... Can this really be our Beatnik? Have we witnessed a grand transformation scene? The Modern Cinderella - switched from her leather jacket to a genuine elegance?”
