VO4TA: Deprivation
Acting is a business of deprivation. It puts everyone involved in it at some point in a state where they just don’t know where the next dollar is coming from. Those highs and lows are the nature of the beast and you need to learn to manage it.
I’m a big fan of quotes. And my Dad is a big fan of Robert Frost.
Here is a Frost quote I saw: “Happiness Makes Up In Height For What It Lacks In Length“
Turns out that’s a title. Here’s the man himself reading it.
Kinda monotone, isn’t he?
I wish I knew something to say to make it all alright. I wish I could unlock every door and answer with absolute authority anyone who asked me: “How do I get a job?” Or: “Do you know where I can get more work?” Or: “Do you think I could really do this and make a living?” I don’t know anyone who can answer these questions perfectly or who ever could.
But today, Bob Frost’s title made me understand something new about the nature of happiness. And that understanding helps when dealing with inevitable uncertainty.
